It has been a big year in Pittsburgh music and 2016 is already shaping up to be another great year of local music. Meeting of Important People and the Red Western are getting back in the action with new releases in February and many more rumors have been floating around.

2015 marked the inaugural Strip District Music Festival and the one time festival, Bloomfest, rocking out against racism. Annual favorites Deutschtown Music Festival and R.A.N.T. Rock All Night Tour did not disappoint and were bigger and better than ever before. Favorite local music showcases like the Downtown Rooftop Shindig and Weather Permitting returned for another successful season. The Nox Boys put together two Teenage Takeover events boasting some of Pittsburgh’s best under 21 bands. This year also saw the pilot premier of HughShows TV, a big step in the right direction for our burgeoning music scene. Weird Paul Petroskey debuted The Weird Paul Variety Show airing on WEPA TV Pittsburgh.

Sound Scene Express has been capturing the action through photos and articles along the way and we felt the need to honor some of Pittsburgh’s best indie rock musicians with an awards show and concert. We have come up with 9 categories that we thought represented important components that keep the scene thriving and hopefully a little recognition and prestige will only fuel the competitive spirits of musicians in the future.

The categories are as follow:

•Breakout Band
•Best LP
•Best EP
•Best Single
•Best Concert
•Best Music video
•Best Music Festival
•Coolest Music Event/Series
•Best Concert Photo (fan vote, night of show)

Fans will have a vote in 4 categories and a 5th the night of the show. You can cast your vote at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BC3ZQ59. Some of the races are neck and neck, so every vote counts! Write in vote are looked at and tallied so keep them coming.

The show will take place February, 6, 2015 at James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy in the historic Northside neighborhood of Deutschtown. The same venue that was home to Layer Cake Festival and a showcase venue for Deutschtown Music Festival. Tickets are only $10. The all ages show begins at 9 and will showcase four bands that had big years in 2015. We have some heavy hitters lined up so don’t miss this show. The headliner will be announced in early January, with the remaining three bands to be announced at Strip District Music Festival.
