His whistling can be compared to that of a bird singing in the springtime. His masterful skill is like no other and has defined his unique approach to music. Along with his whistling skills Bird is also know for his violin, an instrument he has been studying since he was a youth.
Best known for his solo career, Bird has also performed with the Squirrel Nut Zippers and his other project Bowl of Fire, in which he has three albums. Bird is currently touring in support of his 9th solo album “Are You Serious.” Fiona Apple and Blake Mills guest appear on the album with Apple performing on the song “Left Handed Kisses.”
In an interview with Bob Boilen of All Songs Considered, Bird discusses how his songwriting has changed now that he is married.
“Knowing that you’re going to be with someone for a long time definitely changes [the way you write], often because you’re sitting in the same room with them as you’re writing, and when you’re sitting on the couch and you know it’s not going to last, you might … have to … encrypt … things. And when you don’t have to do that anymore it might change your writing in that sense.”
Andrew Bird last played Pittsburgh 4 years ago at Stage AE. He has also played Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall and Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland as far back as 2007. Bird will be in town Saturday, October 8 for a performance at the Byham Theater at 8pm with Sinkane. Tickets can be purchased at Trustarts.org for $42.75-$49.75.
