The Get Up Kids are pioneers of the emo scene, though they haven’t put out new music since 2011 and before that it was 7 years. Forming in 1995 in Kansas City, Missouri The Get Up Kids have seen little turnover featuring Matt Pryor, Jim Suptic, Rob Pope, Ryan Pope and James Dewees. The band officially broke up in 2005 focussing on solo careers and other projects.
In a 2015 interview with Matt Pryor The Aquarian website asks about “Guilt Show” album and the bands demise. Prior states “Well, it would’ve been a different record if we’d all been getting along at the time, but I mean we didn’t promote it at all and Vagrant didn’t promote it at all so it’s hard to promote a band who hate each other, you know. And I don’t fault them for that, they knew it was a sinking ship (laughs). “If you guys aren’t going to give a shit about it, we’re not going to give a shit about it.” But yeah, I think… who knows if we’d all been getting along then it wouldn’t have been the record that it was, it may have been all sunshine and roses and shit.”
The Get Up Kids are known as a major influence to bands like Blink 182 and Fall Out Boy. Even Canadian hardcore band Silverstein were influenced by them as well.
