Nigerian Singer/Songwriter Joy Ike Releases New Video – Promised Land
Torn between her father’s country and the man she loves, “Promised Land” is a story of a woman caught between two worlds. Affectionately referred to as a modern day Romeo & Juliet story, Joy Ike’s song off her latest album, All or Nothing, shares a common struggle for children of immigrants – love or legacy. Promised Land chronicles the mixed emotion of embracing and treasuring one’s own culture while living in another.
Nigerian (Igbo) singer/songwriter Joy Ike’s music has drawn comparisons to female musicians such as Corinne Bailey Rae, India Arie, and Norah Jones. But her percussive playing and soaring vocals give homage to her African upbringing drawing parallels to modern Afro-pop artists Nneka, Asa, and newcomers Ibeyi.
