Your favorite Welsh rockers are making their way back to Pittsburgh on the heels of their latest release “Hitch,” the trio’s third studio album. Their first single “The Last Thing on My Mind” features men dancing in their underwear and even some in the buff. The video is in response to the overwhelming majority of tv that features women in the same light.

The Joy Formidable is Rhiannon “Ritzy” Bryan on guitar and vocals, Rhydian Dafydd Davies on bass and Matthew James Thomas on drums. Bryan is known for her bombastic guitar riffs and peculiar vocals. Both qualities make their live shows intense and fascinating.

With “Hitch” the band really took their time with the release avoiding the trap of putting out an album while trudging through different cities on tour. Though sometimes touring brings out the best songwriting, they chose to reflect on their career while recording at Bryan’s childhood home near the town Mold in Wales.

Pittsburgh has seen The Joy Formidable on a few different stages over the years including The Smiling Moose and Stage AE most recently. This time they will be at Mr. Smalls Theater, Sunday, April 10 at 8:30 for an all ages show with Manchester, London’s Everything Everything.
