Beats Antique is a cross between world music and electronic music, if you never heard their style one could only imagine that their live shows would be a huge (belly) dance party. …and you would be right!
The group consists of David Santori, Zoe Jakes and Tommy Cappel. Over the span of 10 years the trio put out 11 albums including an ep. On their most recent release, Shadowbox, the team pulled from influences all over the world experimenting with a number of different instruments. They even recorded a few tracks all over the globe. The opening track “Three Sisters,” was recorded in Moscow, Russia with Russian Vocalist and Ancient Instrumentalist Tatyana Kalmykova while “Le Refuge” was recorded in Tel Aviv with legendary Israeli Bassist and Producer Yossi Fine.
In an interview with Compose Yourself Magazine, Santori says, “We try to bring all these cultures together and create this universal gypsy culture. It’s the soul that permeates the Earth, we’re all on this planet together and each different group of people that have developed their own sound and their own thing.”
