For local indie pop-rockers on the rise, Nevada Color, 2016 was a busy year. Between winning the title of Best Pop-Rock Band from Pittsburgh City Paper, opening for the alternative group PVRIS (who are soon to begin touring with Muse), playing to a thousands-strong crowd before Rusted Root at Allegheny County Music Festival, and their new demo track “Arrow” being featured in a video for the #aerieREAL ad campaign, it’s safe to say their hard work has been paying off. (It seems our instincts were good when we named them the Breakout Band of 2015 at last year’s SSE Awards.) We’ve been anxiously awaiting a new record (which is tantalizingly close to complete), but in the meantime, their first major headlining show of the year is the next best thing. They’ll be at Cattivo on Saturday, March 25th, with new shirts and performances of many new songs, but their same explosive energy—for a guaranteed good time.
They’ll be joined by openers Daily Grind (of Misra Records) and the Jacob Klein Band, which will make the night a compelling blend of different styles of rock. Daily Grind provides an alternative sound with a little more grit, citing such influences as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, and Queens of the Stone Age. (They also gave a great, enthusiastic performance at our Best of 2016 SSE Awards.) Last year, among other accomplishments, they released their third album, “I Did Those Things,” and opened for Third Eye Blind at Stage AE. Safe to say they’re another compelling up-and-comer you won’t want to miss out on seeing. Meanwhile, Jacob Klein is, in his own words, a “post-modern pop-rock outfit.” Smooth vocals and electronic elements blend with more traditional instruments and introspective lyrics, for an experimental take on a familiar form.
All in all, it promises to be a fun night that showcases some particularly strong players in our local scene. The all-ages show starts early at 6:30 PM, with doors opening up at 6. Tickets are close to being sold out, so get yours here and check out the event page here. Follow the band on Facebook, and keep an eye out for my photos and review of the show, which will be up by the beginning of April.
