Pyrofest
Rusted Root
w/ Beauty Slap
Sunday, May 29
America’s largest fireworks festival wrapped up their 5th year on Sunday night. The crowd was awed with an exceptional show in the night sky, after Pittsburgh’s own Beauty Slap and Rusted Root blasted the crowd with explosive performances.
Beauty Slap ignited the crowd with their electro-brass funk sound, that captivated everyone at Cooper’s Lake. Combining a tradition brass quarter with keys and a computer, they offer some of the most incredible, upbeat, get you moving sounds that can be made. These guys will have you off your seat dancing with their “bangers”, as they describe their songs and wanting more.
Rusted Root took the stage at dusk. As soon as they started playing their distinctive tunes with African and Latin influences, the crowd was drawn in from across the field. With everyone gathered at the stage, they played on with some nostalgic hits, like “Cruel Sun” and “Laugh as the Sun” and threw in some new ones that will be on their upcoming record, like “Don’t Save Me.” As always with Rusted Root, a variety of creative and unique percussion instruments were incorporated throughout their show. The crowd exploded both in size and with energy as the performance went on, until finally the stage itself started to ignite with stunning fireworks as they closed out their set. It was truly and incredible display for the eyes and ears of all who were enjoying a lovely Memorial Day weekend at Cooper’s Lake.
