The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones

Cattivo, Lawrenceville
Michael Devine, better known as Zombo has had plenty of experience putting together cool music events. He has had his hand in the R.A.N.T (Rock all night tour) Festival and Snow Ball Festival at Cattivo, both in Lawrenceville. Devine is at it again, calling this unique show, the international battle of the century. Devine has recruited Slim Forsythe and the Turbosonics to perform Beatles songs, while Elkhound and local Rolling Stones tribute band, Mothers Littlehelpers will play Stones music.
Devine is a fan of both bands, but prefers the psychedelic music from the Beatles and the earlier stuff from the Stones. This sort of battle has been something he has wanted to do for a while, putting one type of music lover up against another in an epic clash. “The fun thing will be that bands are on two floors. The top floor, Beatles. The basement, Stones. It will be interesting to see which floor gets better attendance, and there is a guy who does a killer Keith Richards imitation as well,” says Devine.
Slim Forsythe is no stranger to playing Beatles music. Every year around Christmas time he’ll play some Beatles tunes with the Turbosnics. For that reason Devine explains, Forsythe and the Turbosonics were a shoe in for the gig. “I’m Classic Country, Mountain Gospel, Bluegrass, etc., now…but I’ll say without a second’s hesitation that the biggest musical influence on me bar none, was Paul McCartney,” admits Forsythe.
Forsythe and the Turbosonics are expected to play up to a dozen songs including Let it Be, Oh Darling, Back in the USSR and Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, to name a few. There will also be plenty of time for some solo acoustic acts, so come with a guitar and be ready to play your favorite songs.
As far as future epic battles, “Johnny cash vs the Clash. Elvis Presley vs Elvis Costello. Punk vs new wave. We’ll see if I can pull this one off first,” says Devine.
