This Friday Brooklyn based funk and soul rockers SugarBad will kick off their Summer Snapshot tour at Cattivo in lawrenceville. The group are touring in support of their debut EP Up in the Clouds released earlier this year. Many bands who utilize horn sections claim they are funky, but these guys can really stake claim to that title, getting their start as an Otis Redding and James Brown instrumental cover band, they perfected the funk  and soul sound modeling after the “Godfather of Soul,” himself, James Brown. SugarBad really took form after adding St. Louis born vocalist, Lisa Ramey to the mix with her robust voice and dynamic stage presence. Rounding out the compelling unit is Nicholas Myers on saxophone, Aaron Rockers on trumpet, Frank Cogliano on guitar, David Mainella on organ and keyboards, Isaac Jaffe on bass and Ryan Ramirez  on Drums.

Joining SugarBad is Pittsburgh’s own Beauty Slap who have been all over the scene this year with the release of  The Beauty Slap EP and a full slate still ahead. If you haven’t seen them yet this is the perfect time to get yourself aquatinted with this live dance party. Doors open at 9pm with the show starting at 10pm for this 21+ show, downstairs. Tickets are available for only $10 at the door or at ticketfly.
