Tonight: The Dads Release New Album at Surface Level Records Shindig

Preview by Randy Jarosz

Friday just might be the hip hop event of the year, showcasing Surface Level Records finest. The night features Fortified PhonetX with DJ Blacklisted, Moemaw Naedon and Connect Rhymes, Stillborn Identity, Proseed, The Latebloomer, and The Dads with Joey Smooth and Shaggy Rogers.

Surface Level Records is a group of independent hip hop artists who joined forces to support one another in an effort to reach individual and collective goals. The project was started by Fortified PhonetX and Proseed and later expanded to its current roster.

The Dads will also be releasing their long awaited album “Because I Said So.” Joey Smooth and Shaggy Rogers created The Dads in 2012 but went their separate ways to find their own identity, both releasing solo material.

“I think the time away helped us both to mature as artists. It definitely gave us time to explore different creative directions and refine our voices, writing, and stage presence,” says Smooth. Joey Smooth has taken on the majority of production, mixing, and mastering for this project and ensures this will be a party record that you can move to.

Along with performances by all the Surface Level mates, live artists will also be on hand with Dante Lombardi and Neil Glenn. The event will be held at 7:30 at the Irma Freeman Center for Imagination at 5006 Penn Ave Friday, October 23. Prizes will be given to the first few through the door. Tickets are only $5.
