The Low Anthem are celebrating their 5th studio album with a tour that will hit up Mr. Smalls Saturday June 25. The new album called Eyeland is a concept album focusing on childhood friends who endured a house fire to one of their houses that ultimately changed their lives. The group pushes the envelope here with their first release in 5 years and is sure to reel in old fans and attract new ones. The first single “Ozzie” is more upbeat than “Pepsi Moon,” which offers a unique story and true musicianship.
The Low Anthem have not performed in Pittsburgh since 2011, where they played a sold out Brillobox. They have also played Club Cafe and the Byham Theater with Emmylou Harris. Between 2011 and 2016 the band played some select shows overseas in 2012 but had been working on new material during most of their hiatus. These guys not only call themselves multi instrumentalists but actually practice it at every live show, trading instruments throughout their set. River Whyless and locals Arlo Aldo and The Mixus Brothers will also be on the bill starting at 8.
