Kurt Vile & The Violators
Mr. Smalls
February 22, 2016
Kurt Vile is the perfect example of a 1970’s throwback, from his style to his slacker persona. Although, like his 70’s counterparts he is actually quite motivated, pumping out quality records year after year. His latest work “b’lieve i’m goin down,” is no exception. The 6th studio album takes a similar approach to his past work with his often humorous lyrics, but he delves into some new instrumentation including a banjo and piano. Don’t worry, there are still plenty of guitar solos, catchy riffs and enough reverb to go around. Along with having a voice made for radio, apparently he has a voice for tv too, or at least animation. Vile will be lending his voice to a new animated tv show on HBO called Animals due out February 5.
Kurt Vile & The Violators have had their fair run ins with Pittsburgh, most recently playing the Carnegie Lecture Hall and before that at The Andy Warhol Museum. They will be gracing the Mr. Smalls stage February 22 for an all ages show. Doors open at 7pm with Xylouris White kicking things off at 8pm.
