Local doom pop duo performs a one-off dark lounge set with special guests

Pittsburgh doom pop duo Action Camp is set to host a very special evening of dark, sexy music at Club Cafe. Members Maura Jacob and Bengt Alexsander join forces with local upright bassists Jesse Prentiss (of Drowning Clowns) and Matt Gibb to reinterpret Action Camp songs previously heavy in distortion and electronic elements for a performance of more stripped down and loungey arrangements. With two basses, a piano, and crooning vocals to serenade you, the night promises to elicit the sinister cool of a David Lynch film in the comfort of your favorite club.

“Rearranged” takes place Wednesday, February 11th at 8pm at Club Cafe and will also feature opening performances by Midge Crickett and Larkin Mayberry IV. The show is 21 and over with limited seating and standing room. Tickets are $8. For more information and to reserve tickets, visit clubcafelive.com or purchase directly through ticketweb.

It has been a busy year for the local duo. After releasing PA, an album inspired by historical man-made disasters in Pennsylvania, they hit the road, playing dates throughout the Midwest and Northeast. In January they released the first music video for the album in collaboration with Eyes to the Skies Films. One of their more confessional songs, “You Don’t Even Know My Name” is about rejecting expectations by finding your own voice. The video brings the song’s cool yet explosive atmosphere to life with performances focused less on a glamorized image and more on intimate, tense energy. The use of raw close-up shots reflects the vulnerability that comes with new beginnings.

About Action Camp:

Action Camp is a duo based in Pittsburgh, PA whose sound blends elements of doom pop, electro, surf, and art rock. Members Maura Jacob and Bengt Alexsander combine found sound, drum loops, synths, low-tuned guitars, and Jacob’s classically-trained vocals to create music that conveys more urgency, grit, and warmth than one typically finds in electronic music.
