Deutschtown Music Festival this Saturday

press release
July 12, 2014 will mark the second annual free Deutschtown Music Festival. Building upon
the immense success of last year’s event, the full-day festival will showcase more than 100
performers in at least 16 outdoor and indoor venues, starting at 11 a.m. and ending late that
night. There will be a wide variety of music styles, including rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass,
country and gospel. The daytime portion is designed to be a family-friendly event, with
numerous food trucks, a flea market, the city’s Roving Art Cart and other activities to
supplement the music. Throughout the day and night, a free shuttle with several stops in the
Northside and Northshore will be available to the 3-5,000 people that are expected to
attend.
Sponsors this year include Highmark, The Sprout Fund, Straub and Iron City beer. WYEP is
this year’s media sponsor.
When asked about this year’s event neighborhood advocate and festival co-founder Cody
Walters said, “2,500 people discovered new music and our awesome neighborhood at last
year’s festival. This year, we’re expecting double that number. We have more bands, more
venues, more buzz. It’ll be a great time, guaranteed.” Added co-founder Ben Soltesz, “Now
is a wonderful time to be experiencing Pittsburgh music. There are a lot of great local acts
and excitement has been building. This is just a great event to sample a lot of it in a
walkable, multi-venue environment.
