They made it through the 1980’s and 90’s and no they weren’t a hair band or part of the grunge scene. In that time they released 5 albums. About 2 week ago The Jayhawks released their 9th studio album. The alt country pop crew have seen line-up changes and a hiatus for the better part of the 2000’s but are back with one of their strongest line-ups yet, despite the absence of Mark Olson. Lead vocalist and guitarist Gary Louris and bassist Marc Perlman are the only two constant members since their inception in 1985.
The opening track “Quiet Corners & Empty Spaces,” on their new effort “Paging Mr. Proust” is a nostalgic piece similar to a 1960’s Beach Boys tune with Crosby Stills and Nash like harmonies, that will effortlessly keep you wanting more.
With classics like “Waiting for the Sun” and “Save it for A Rainy Day” this is a must see concert for any alt-country music fans. The Jayhawks have always put on an exciting show and their next visit to Pittsbusrgh, this Sunday May 15 will be no different. They will take the Mr. Smalls stage with opening act Folk Uke at 8 PM. Tickets can be purchased at ticketweb for $22 or day of show for $25.
