w/Head Wound City
Mr. Smalls Theater
May 17, 2016
Post punk rockers Savages are back in the states, from London and are making their way toward Pittsburgh. Lead singer Jehnny Beth, guitarist Gemma Thompson, bassist Ayse Hassan and drummer Fay Milton are all incredible musicians and their live shows are proof of that. Savages music is dark and sometimes confrontational like on their debut single “Husbands.” They continue the trend on their new release sticking with their urgent playing style, although scaling it back a bit on the song “Adore.”
Jehnny Beth’s charismatic personality comes out in every song, with the best way to experience her is in concert, with her short slicked back hair and command of any size stage. Her lyrics are clever and witty, keeping you on your toes with every word. “Adore Life” is the follow up to 2013’s debut full length album “Silence Yourself,” which is the first time the women were in Pittsburgh at Mr. Smalls.
They’ll be back May 17 for another show at the same venue with Head Wound City. Tickets are $20 in advance at ticketweb or $22 day of show. The all ages show starts at 8 with the doors at 7.
